- Description
- The analysis of human resource management (HRM) and employment relations (ER) in MNCs has been historically limited by the lack of systematic data on employment policy and practice, and how these are influenced by organisational characteristics. In spite of the importance of MNCs to the Irish economy, thus far we have not had an authoritative study of management practice in MNCs. This book seeks to address this knowledge deficit. Drawing on the most representative empirical survey-based investigation of HRM and ER in MNCs in Ireland to date, we report key findings on the profile of MNCs in Ireland and on practice in regard to various aspects of HRM, specifically on issues such as the HR function, pay and performance, employee representation and consultation, employee involvement and communication, training and development, and issues of autonomy and control in the management of MNC subsidiaries. We also use the survey findings to test the impact of various organisational factors (principally nationality of ownership, sector and size) on variation in HRM practice among MNCs.
