- Description
- Calls for institutional investors to divest tobacco shareholdings threaten the industry's share values, publicise its bad behaviour and label it as a politically unacceptable ally. Recently, we drew attention to the finding that the tobacco investment practices of Australian superannuation (pension) funds were not aligned with their members' preferences. The issue of tobacco investments by superannuation funds is especially salient to those employed in the drug and alcohol field, given their commitment to reducing the burden of illness imposed by tobacco and other drugs. It represents an issue which straddles the boundary between their personal and professional lives.
