Description: The contribution of nutrition support in cystic fibrosis to achieving optimal growth, preservation of lung function and improved quality of life has become increasingly recognised and valued over the past 25 years. In that time standard care has moved from a low fat diet consumed with unrestricted pancreatic enzyme supplements to a high fat diet consumed with predominantly enteric coated pancreatic enzyme replacement supplements. Prior to 1981 chronic under-nutrition resulting in linear growth failure and weight retardation was a recognised and accepted feature of CF'. However, despite advances in knowledge and treatments available growth failure is still relatively common. This paper examines current challenges and opportunities in optimising the nutrition related health for people with CF today.
