Description: In support of their model the authors [A. Valor, F. Caleyo, L. Alfonso, D. Rivas, J.M. Hallen, Corros. Sci. 49 (2007) 559] use data reported in [R.E. Melchers, Corrosion 60 (2004) 937 ; R.E. Melchers, Corrosion 60 (2004) 824] for steel coupons exposed to real seawater and recovered in successive batches over a period of 4 years. However, the manner in which the authors use that data may create potentially misleading impressions.
