- Description
- Diabetes is a costly chronic disease that is associated with many complications and premature mortality. The cost of diabetes carehas been predicted to rise dramatically over the next decade in Australia unless measures are taken to reduce complications and prevent or delay onset.New drugs are being introduced over time that may carry a higher cost for patients than those they supplant, for potentially marginal gains in health. An increase in medication costs for people on a fixed income may be a barrier to optimal care for chronic conditions such as diabetes.
