- Description
- Phillip McIntyre and J. T. Velikovsky propose a systems-based approach to understanding creative practice in the production of music and sound in the video games industry. McIntyre and Velikovsky base their approach not on the Romantic view of creativity springing mysteriously from inspiration but on an evidence-based, rationalist view, traceable to Aristotle: creativity derives from a discoverable set of pre-existing conditions. Creative work in music and sound for video games arises from the interplay of three factors: structured knowledge of games and audio providing a symbol system to the agent; a judgment-based social organization; and the choice-making composer or sound designer as agent.
