- Description
- As a result of economic globalization and rapid development of information technology, on-line teaching is becoming an important approach of teaching Chinese as a second language to the learners all over the world. In spite of the fact that the application of information technology has shortened the geographical distance within the global village, it does not change the cultural gap between the designers of Chinese language curriculum and the learners scattered at every corner of the world. This paper questions the existing framework of on-line teaching in terms of the different cultural context of the designers and learners. It reveals not only the impact of cultural context on the content of Chinese language but also the potential influence of cultural context on the process of teaching. Based on the post-structurist theory on language and culture, this paper explores the important theoretical issue of on-line Chinese language teaching which seems to be overlooked in the past and further puts forward a new proposition for teaching practice.
