- Description
- This PhD investigates iconic modern architecture in contemporary art practice through the mediums of painting, drawing and sculpture. Through a praxis-based methodology, the research develops and elucidates technical solutions to achieve aesthetic aims of painting stylised architectural subject matter. The representation of modern architecture is conveyed through theoretical grounding and practical studies in art making to test theories of abstraction, seriality, technique, and colour. The primary contribution to new knowledge that this exegesis and accompanying exhibition of original creative works work makes is the proposal of a new field of art practice to be known as Contemporary Precisionism. This field is used to define the art practice investigated in this creative-practice research and locates the work under investigation within a broader art historical and contemporary context.
