- Student capabilities or skills as an important part of schooling have had growing interest over the past few years. Cooperative learning, as an inclusive pedagogy, assists teachers to help develop their students' “personal and social capabilities” which is one of the seven capabilities in the Australian curriculum. Students develop personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work, and learning more effectively. Teachers' perceptions of their own students' social capabilities in the primary years of schooling through survey results from teachers in primary settings with Australia, Sweden, and England will be examined. Results demonstrated that the teachers' perceptions of their students' social capabilities vary, but by age 12, students have generally developed the skills outlined in the continuum. In particular, they have strong capabilities in working collaboratively, contributing to groups and teams.
