- Description
- Through examination, observation, analysis, and creative practice, this research investigates the cultural issues involved when using appropriation for the modern composer/producer. It explores the power of nostalgia, memory and recognition of past melodies versus new compositional elements which may not be familiar. As a composer and producer of Electronic Music, my own creative practice has previously explored the integration of the old and the new with a recontextualisation of Erik Satie’s Gymnopedie #1 in 1997. This practice led research aims to further explore the potential and value of creating musical bridges between the past and present through an exegesis and a practical portfolio of fourteen music compositions.
