- Housing affordability has often been discussed among researchers and policy makers as it has become one of the major concern among countries who recognize its significant role to the nation’s economy and social wellbeing. This research attempts to understand housing affordability by using a proxy ratio comprising housing price and household income. The research, examines the significance of relationship between four macroeconomic factors including GDP, inflation rate, interest rate and exchange rate with housing affordability. The findings show that there is significant negative relationship between GDP and exchange rate towards housing affordability while inflation rate showed significant positive relationship with housing affordability. The findings benefit current and potential homeowners, researchers and policymakers in Malaysia and neighbouring countries.
