- Description
- This article examines the life of a significant amateur sportsman, exploring the foundation of a career of sustained versatility and durability. Richard Tooth's career in international Rugby Union for the Wallabies has been widely documented, but less has been written about his formative years and his lifelong involvement in amateur surf lifesaving. The article provides a more rounded portrayal than that presently available within the life studies genre. Consideration is given to Tooth's pioneering sports medicine, his intense involvement in club Rugby, and his achievements in coaching. Tooth's life story provides an exemplar of the ideology of amateur sport.
