- Description
- The rapid growth in demand for wireless networks is no longer limited to the notion of enhanced throughput and privacy protection. Rather, it incorporates many verticals to cater for a wide range of distinct use cases. Massive machine-type communication (mMTC) is one of the major service categories of 5G, together with enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), and ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC), in the IMT 2020 Vision Framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) [1]. This makes mMTC an extended use case of the 5G wireless network. A typical example of mMTC is the collection of a massive number of nodes, such as smart meters in the smart grid, IoT networks or automated factories [2].
