Description: Over the past twenty years, most member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have experienced substantial increases in atypical employment arrangements, particularly in relation to temporary workers. Covering the majority of occupations and industries, the temporary work sector is characterised by temporary work agencies that offer skilled staff to employers for short-term appointments. This paper compares and contrasts the development of the temporary work sector in Australia and Ireland. A particular emphasis is given to temporary agency work and three key issues relevant to the sector within both countries.
