- It is shown, by means of density functional theory calculations, that adsorption of iodine monolayer on Bi₂Se₃ (111) film, while preserving the intrinsic Dirac electronic states in Bi₂Se₃, induces also a number of Dirac cones in the system that cannot be attributed to the Rashba effect. The presented results extend the discussion on the proximity effect observed previously at a topological/non-topological interface.
