Description: This article re-evaluates both Australia's relations with Britain and the US after the Second World War and the type of defence planning that had been undertaken in Canberra. Preoccupation with nuclear weapons gave Britain and Australia a reason to renegotiate imperial relations in the years before 1957, the point at which London at last restored relations with the US, effectively denying Australia membership of the nuclear club.
