- Phase transitions in the relaxor ferroelectric PZN–4.5%PT in the temperature range 4.2–450 K were studied using very high resolution neutron powder diffraction. Three phases, rhombohedral (R3m), tetragonal (P4mm) and cubic (Pm3m) occur in this range with increasing temperature. The transitions are approximately 15 K lower than shown in the conventional phase diagram and are first order. A single phase tetragonal region was not observed and hence is very narrow (<5 K) or non-existent.
