- Description
- Recently, the authors investigated the effect of spatial variability on the undrained stability of an unlined circular tunnel. However, no studies have been conducted so far for the undrained stability of an unlined square tunnel in spatially variable soil. This study, therefore, aims to extend the previous research by the authors in the area of probabilistic tunnel stability, where the influence of spatial variability on the stability of a single unlined square tunnel in spatially random soil is analyzed, using RAFELA (random adaptive finite element limit analysis). The results from Monte-Carlo simulations indicate similar trends in the random stability number and the probability of failure, for both circular and square tunnels.
