- Description
- This paper discusses the model predictions of a series of conventional isotropic loading stress paths, at different values of constant suction, obtained from the simulations of three existing constitutive models for unsaturated soils. The well-known Barcelona Basic Model (BBM) is used as a reference point of the analysis, whereas two more recent models, involving both predictions of degree of saturation, are included in the discussion to expand and complement the research. In addition to the comments on the effects of suction on mechanical yielding and associated normal compression lines, the paper discusses some of the influences that the predicted elasto-plastic volumetric behaviour (due to mechanical yielding) has on the water retention behaviour (degree of saturation variations) during the conventional isotropic loading paths considered.
