- In this paper, a new method for stability analysis of a single degree of freedom (SDOF) cutting system with sinusoidal spindle speed variation (SSSV) is proposed. Based on the approximately periodic property of the time delay in the turning process and the delay decomposition method, novel criteria of stability analysis for an SDOF cutting system are presented. Moreover, a state feedback controller is designed to stabilize the system and improve the steady-state response. Numerical simulation shows the effectiveness of the method.
