- Description
- The evaporation and drying of a suspension containing nanoparticles of 200 nm in diameter and density 1250 kg/m3 was investigated to determine the influence of the solvent drying rate on particle deposition and cluster formation. The investigation was carried out using computer simulations based on Discrete Element Method. The model considers Brownian motion, Van der Waal interactions, hydrodynamic resistance functions and gravity. The evaporation model was based on a liquid pool with forced convection. The evaporation was a function of the turbulent Schmidt number, Reynolds number, vapour pressure, air speed at a reference height, the length of the pool in the stream wise direction and the solvent surface area exposed. The temperature was varied between 60 and 90 °C, wind velocity between 0.5 m/s and 1.5 m/s and turbulent Schmidt numbers between 0.6 and 1.0. With an increase in evaporation from increasing temperature or wind velocity the packing fraction was shown to increase. However, with further increases the packing fraction remained constant. The particle aggregate was shown to form prior to surface deposition.
