- There is an increasing pedagogical trend in the Higher School Certificate Ancient History Syllabus to consider the legacies of antiquity. This reflects the developments in Classical Studies, namely the growth in, and promotion of, Reception Studies: consideration of the multitude of ways in which the ancient world operates in post-antiquity, from the Early Modern Europe age to the present day. This paper discusses Reception Studies in the classroom and suggests some methodologies for 'best practice.' After a definition of Reception Studies, its origins and some of its key terminologies, there are suggestions for its implementation in the classroom, followed by a discussion of HSC 'Case Study 7: Boudicca: Resistance to Roman Rule,' which includes a Reception Studies component.
