- Description
- An improvement was made on the hydro-mechanical coupling model for unsaturated soils by Wheeler, Sharma and Buisson. The Loading-Collapse yield curve in the simplified Bishop’s stress and the modified suction plane was modified and expected to describe more properly the wetting-induced collapse of unsaturated compacted soils. A constitutive model in triaxial stress space was then formulated within the framework of Critical State Soil Mechanics. Simulations under various loading paths, such as cyclic wetting and drying, combined hydro-mechanical loading in both isotropic and anisotropic stress conditions, are carried out. Comparisons with predictions of the Wheeler’s model and experimental data show that the modified model is capable to give a relatively satisfactory prediction for the hydro-mechanical coupling behavior of unsaturated soils.
