- Description
- I have engaged with feminism in leisure studies somewhat sporadically over the past two decades. Initially, I was a graduate student who completed a course that focused on women, gender, and leisure. That experience presented to me a different way of viewing leisure, as it highlighted the dominance of an androcentric focus in leisure studies at that time (e.g., Henderson, Bialeschki, Shaw, & Freysinger, 1996; Wearing, 1998). Although I found that course and the feminist scholarship refreshing, as a man I also found it disquieting. This discomfort came largely from a question that I have sought to answer over the past two decades. What is the role of men in a feminist leisure studies?
