- Studies in prepubertal children and adults of both sexes suggest that if the theory is true that oestrogen facilitates fat utilization and carbohydrate parsimony during endurance exercise, its effects in both men and women are 1) low in threshold, 2) concentration independent, 3) modified by testosterone and the influence of other hormones.
