- Description
- New generations of wireless technologies are breaking barriers of distance and providing communication methods to obtain information in ways that have never been imagined. For instance, the Internet is currently available everywhere, and in a city it can be used as a communication tool for an improved human development. With the help of mobile communication technology, we can reach and send data at any point within city areas. With satellite technology, it is also possible to connect with information and communication technologies (ICTs) at remote locations. This chapter is organized as follows. Section 6.2 describes an overview of wireless technologies used for medical monitoring. It gives the concept of wireless telemedicine applications with their important design features. Section 6.3 presents the implementation and development details for sensor node electronics used to detect physiological data. The multiaccess protocols used for communications to and from multisensors and multipatients are also given in Section 6.4. Section 6.5 discusses the implementation of wireless telemedicine systems in trauma and emergency cases. Implementations of telemedicine systems in disaster settings are explained extensively. This section also discusses the computer programs needed for recording, monitoring, and processing the medical data captured through the wireless sensors. Finally, Section 6.6 concludes the chapter.
