- The Semi Interlocking Masonry (SIM) is an innovative masonry system where bricks are not bonded by mortar into a stiff monolithic panel but remain unbonded interlocked units. The main purpose of this system is to enhance the seismic performance of framed structures with masonry panels. High displacement ductility, as well as high energy dissipation, were observed during in-plane tests on frames with SIM infill panels. It could be beneficial to combine SIM with other earthquake-resistant systems such as confined masonry to form a new system for masonry buildings with further enhanced seismic performance. We call this system confined semi-interlocking masonry or CSIM. This paper investigates the structural performance of CSIM walls with different aspect ratios. FE models for representing CSIM walls were developed and CSIM models with different aspect ratio were subjected to pushover analysis. Structural performance of models was assessed in terms of strength and damage pattern of CSIM walls. Results indicated that CSIM walls with larger length had higher resistance. Besides, because of the high nonlinearity in models, numerical models could not capture the real ultimate displacement. Nonetheless, there was a good agreement between numerical results and analytical results up to maximum strength.
